Autism is a life long marathon for the person experiencing it, their families and the people who love and care for them. Their experience has inspired me to commit to my own ultra marathon as a representation of not only the struggles faced but also the joy of triumphing over adversity.
I will be competing in the Marathon des Sables in April 2018. The Marathon des Sables covers over 250 kms over 6 days in the Sahara desert in southern Morocco. I will face some of the harshest conditions on earth while running a marathon a day. It been called the hardest footrace on earth. I expect not just a great challenge but also an incredible experience. Just like those experiencing autism and their families.
I am raising money for Giant Steps, a truly fantastic school in Sydney, Australia offering a multi-disciplinary approach to autism. The school has provided wonderful support to my family and many other families in Sydney and Melbourne. I think it is no overstatement to say that Giant Steps is one of the best autism specific schools in the world. There are no school fees so that it can be open to all families that need the support. They receive some government funding but not enough to provide the fantastic support they do. I hope to further their work and help them help many more families as they expand into the future.
I am very grateful for whatever support you, your organisation or your network can provide no matter how small (even if that is just sharing this link). I am self funding all expenses for the event so every dollar donated goes to Giant Steps. Together we can make a difference to the options available for autistic children and their families. Giant Steps is a registered charity so all donations are tax deductible. Thank you for your support.
